Anatomy of a Word

A vowel

a quality of tone

Contained and given form

by percussive consonants

A sharpness of tongue

restrains the open

A pursing of lips

Collapses the resonant

As pillars to a temple

that hold the spirit

The consonants capture

and apprehend in meaning

*

Now we divide the word

and separate

into mere sounds

of unbound qualities

and liberate the spirit

An energy set free

to expand and dissipate

its pattern to propagate

through space

and through time

Inflating as if a bubble

its capacity is cast outwards

until its energy is spent

And the plenitude of space

rests back into stillness
