The Change
I stare into your layers
and you peel away mine
We penetrate the canopy
unfolding inflorescence
Torn leaves of a life
expand into constellation
The pattern of a person
Molecular identity
Scattered fragments
cluster into a conurbation
projecting and revealing
strata of straits and narrows
I stare into streets
Wander aimless
and your canals pour into mine
Our lives are compound
My eye meanders
through evolving depths
gravitates towards a centre
A door, a chamber, a treasure
My centre reaches out to hold
and I am entangled
A quantum phenomenon
across space and time
Inspired by Ralph Rumney's painting 'The Change' in The Tate Britain, Weston Gallery 1950.
